Frequently Asked Questions

Are the rooms air-conditioned? No. The rooms have thick stone walls that keep them cool in summer. All rooms have fans. Heat is never usually a problem in the rooms unless we have a severe heat-wave.

Are any of the rooms wheelchair-accessible? Our wine cellar is disabled friendly, you should bear in mind that Appleton's does not have ramps or paths and there is one step into the house, gravel is on the driveway, we would rather say disabled friendly, and not suitable for wheel-chairs.

What is your smoking policy? All the rooms, including the bathrooms, are non-smoking but you are free to smoke outside if you wish. Please be careful as the grass can be very dry in summer. It is illegal for you to smoke in the house as we are a registered B&B and it is unsafe and unpleasant for the other guests, there is a great garden to smoke in and being an ex smoker myself I do understand.

Is there internet access? If you have your own lap-top with a wireless connection you should be able to get connected, although this may depend on your computer and settings so it can't be guaranteed. In rural France broadband connections can be lost and will not be as fast as you are used to. There is, however, an internet cafe in Argenton, ten minutes away.

Are dogs welcome? Yes, so long as they are friendly and won't trouble the other guests. Please don't allow your beloved pet in or on the beds, we appreciate your help with this, as I'm sure you realise we have to rent rooms out to other guests, large breeds of dog will have to sleep in the lounge or the owners car, we would ask you also to clear up any dog mess, we have our Pet friendly rooms on the ground floor as these have tiled floors. There is a supplement of €10,00 per night for dogs.

Do you have a gym? We have a small weights area with a bench press, free weights etc. And of course, a pool. Bikes are available, please enquire. All equipment is used at your own risk.

What do we need to bring? In summer the weather is generally very warm so you will not need more than a light jumper or jacket in the evenings at most. Bring plenty of sun-cream and a towel for the pool.

Is there a bar? We have an honesty bar where you can help yourself to wine, beer and soft drinks and pay what you think is reasonable at the end of your stay.

When staying for just one night please pack an overnight case, this makes it so much easier when coming into the house as we can not always help and large suitcases scratch walls which will have to be repainted, not leaving a good impression for our other guests. Dinner is not formal wear so you don’t need a dinner jacket just clean cloths for the following mornings off.

Please do not feed Leo, we have had some guest this year (2008) who insist on feeding him bits from the table, this is not fair on him as we then tell him off.

We don't have a check in time but normally expect guests around 4pm, if you are going to be earlier please let us know.

Check out is by 10.30 am and breakfast is from 7am to 9 am.

How can I pay the balance of my Bill? Payment is by cash, French cheque, or paypal, paypal payments will incur a 10 euro additional charge as there are charges levied on us to receive payments.

Do I have to pay a deposit? No you don't have to pay a deposit but during busy periods we can not guarantee we will keep your room, this is our livelihood  and an empty room in the summer is lost revenue.
